I bit the inside of my cheek.
Rachel’s footsteps had already disappeared down the corridor.
Heather glanced at me sideways, and the innocence dropped completely from her expression.
She smiled. Wide and warm and genuine.
“You look incredible, Bella,” she said quietly. “Whatever—or whoever—is behind that glow? I’m happy for you. Truly.”
I looked at her, something soft moving through my chest. “Thank you, Heather.”
She squeezed my arm once, then peeled off toward her own office.
