After the morning that my ears bled, I started having blackouts, losing time. I’d sit in my office busy with paperwork and I’d look up and it would be three hours later, the same paperwork still in front of me. I had no recollection of what happened during this time and I decided to open Karani’s chest again.

The anger remained though, still searing, fuelling the hatred he felt for Harley, for Elizabeth, for himself. Taking a minute to regain his breath, his head resting against the cool leather headrest, he shook away his irritation. He had to move. He needed to be as far away from SubTerra, from Elizabeth, as possible. Starting his car, the trickle of anxiety that he’d damaged it abating as the engine purred to life, he steadied his trembling hands on the wheel and hit the gas, skidding out of the lot and onto the dark streets.
