“You were meant to burn the old world down!”
“I did burn it,” Evelyn hissed, pushing forward. “But I built something better from the ashes.”
“You call this better?” The Heir’s laughter was wild, echoing through the valley. “Chains wrapped in silk are still chains, sister.”
“I’m not your sister,” Evelyn spat.
“Oh, you are,” the Heir said softly, pressing her blade to Evelyn’s throat. “We share the same scars.”
Evelyn’s magic flared. The air around them shattered like glass. In an instant, the Heir was thrown backward, slamming into the mud.
