The elder’s skeletal frame began to shift as he roared, “I’ll show you my true power!” He opened his skeletal jaws and began muttering a strange incantation. Adrian’s eyes narrowed with surprise as a rift opened in the void, and from it emerged another skeletal creature. “What… Is that a hellhound?” Adrian murmured. The creature, resembling a large, menacing dog, trembled with a terrible aura. Adrian recognized it instantly as a hellhound, a beast he had encountered before. The elder looked smug, though momentarily taken aback by Adrian’s recognition. “So you know what it is. That’s right, it’s a hellhound, and a signal that your end has arrived.”

The runes pulsed like a heartbeat. The shadow paused just beyond the circle. It had no clear form, but hints of a muzzle and claws flickered in and out of existence, as if it couldn’t quite decide what it was. Something massive crashed through the hedge below, and I dropped the last six feet, rolling, coming up with my back to the stone wall. The hound was enormous. Not an Academy breed. Not anymore. Its fur had gone patchy, falling away in clumps to reveal skin that glowed with corrupted moonlight - the silver-green of lunar poison, the kind that turned loyal beasts into weapons. Foam dripped from jaws that could crush a femur. Its eyes, once the warm brown of trained animals, were now void-black, reflecting nothing, hungry for anything that moved. He moved over the corpse, breathing heavily, blood running down his cheeks and chest as he glared into the empty space next to Tara.

I watch as a hydra steps out and my eyes widen as I come skidding to a stop. “Oh, shit!” Kodiak says. Oh, shit indeed. How the fuck did she get one of those? They are meant to be in the underworld. I look closer and see it has collars on it’s three necks. It is only young. Even being young, it is huge. Towering over the trees. There is only one thing to do. I look around. I need to find him. I spot him chomping down on someone. Shaking his head violently as the person is split in half.

A dent on the concrete wall behind Nolani looked as if a giant had landed a punch into it. Eyes glowing jade, pearl white fangs protruded as though she’s ready to bite, validated the reality of my situation. Nolani is a vampire gazing at me hungrily as she struggles with Henry’s restraints. “Nolani,” growled Henry, a warning. He had his back on me. She shivered as she walked, enjoying the view. As she was walking, she came to the second hideout the girls planned to use. The hideout was a large treehouse of sorts. One of the giant trees had died decades ago and had been hollowed out by weather and wild animals. The roots branched out above ground and made a hilly path around the tree. Underneath one of the roots, there was a small hole where a person could easily slide inside if they were small enough. Susanna tried to slide inside the hole and found she fit easily. She slid back out, making sure to drop her scent along the way. She wanted the Kreil to see the tree and scope it out on their way through.
