She wouldn’t find one. “They signed,” she said finally. “Yes.” “They agreed to all these terms” “Yes, they did” I enjoyed the despair on her face. The realization that she couldn't win. Her voice dropped. “So there’s no way out" I watched it land. Watched it settle in her chest like something sharp. “None,” I said.

It felt as though someone had stabbed her repeatedly, rendering her unable to breathe or move. Pain shot through her entire torso, threatening to rip her apart. The sensation took her breath away as fear gripped her heart with paralyzing ferocity.
