I knew certainly that she was wondering why the heck I was suddenly being calm with her. She nodded her head, continuously as she replied, “Yeah, anytime. Whenever.” So, why can't it be as easy as this? Why can't she let me claim her and get her out of my fucking system? Was it my determination to claim her, and to make her believe that I always got what I wanted that made me so obsessed with this girl I thought would be a one-night stand? This isn't right. I, admitting that I was indeed obsessed—getting this mad because a girl wanted to cut ties with me, just wasn't right.

It was as if he was fascinated by her even more than the star of this show. He shouldn't derive this much pleasure from watching a woman but god could he help himself? Whenever this woman was involved, Ollie was helpless. They'd had sex. He'd had her already. That should have scratched the itch. He should be tired of her already and move on with his damn life. I could break her. But nobody else got to say a fucking word about her. The realization hit me like a freight train: I was obsessed. Completely, mind-bendingly fixated on this girl in a way that was messing with my entire existence.

She grabbed her small purse and headed toward the door. Behind her, Amy’s smile melted into bitterness. She hated—hated—that Jenny looked more beautiful than her even now, with all the expensive makeup and hours she spent getting ready. Jealousy burned inside her. “Your life will crumble soon enough,” Amy whispered under her breath. “Let’s see how long you last with a monster.” Amy breezed past her family, waved goodbye, and drove off without a second glance. Jenny, Robert, and Emma entered their car moments later.
