Second chance mates are looked at with pity from others. No one can compare to your first mate, or so I’ve heard. Ending up as someone’s second chance mate is a gamble. Sometimes you get lucky and they didn’t mate or mark their first mate before they died, others didn't really love their first mate, but sometimes they did love their first mate and the second mate is stuck living in the shadow of the first mate.
