she said weakly, "I want you all to leave it alone." "Okay," I said as I pulled her in for a hug.

"You're not well, and I don't want to leave you alone." I let out a deep sigh, feeling my irritation grow. Why couldn't she just leave me alone? I didn't need her help, and I certainly didn't need her hovering over me like a mother hen. "Maria, I appreciate your concern," I said, trying to sound calm, "but I'm fine. Just...just leave me alone."

“Alpha?” “Leave her.” I said calmly. “I am rather enjoying this.” “She crossed the line, Alpha.” “I am aware, and I am going to be the one handling this… for now, just leave, Anya.” I said, my voice both calm and collected. Anya sighed. “Alpha...” “Leave us.” I said calmly. She hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Alpha, she shouldn't be left alone with…” “Anya.” I said, stopping her. That single word ended the discussion.

“I can do the rest on my own.” He clearly has other things on his mind and doesn't want to be here, so she is giving him an out. He can take it and leave her alone, as he works through whatever the heck is freaking bothering him. “Hey, no. I can help you.” “I can do it on my own so you don't have to stay. Really. I don't need any help.” She tells him, not even bothering to turn around. This is where he leaves, to go sulk in private somewhere, she is sure.

"If you push everyone away, one day you are going to find yourself all alone." I said before I walked away, holding back the tears threatening my eyes. "You think I don't know what you are doing? I heard Naima's voice from a distance." He does not want your help, stop throwing yourself at him. He does not want you." she said laughing sarcastically, a bottle of wine in her hand.

I already knew I needed to work on my approach but hearing from someone else might just leave me a different sting than I thought. “She said she didn't want to have anything to do with me. In her words, I should just leave her alone.”

She wanted to be left alone. So without another word, I left the room and quietly closed the door behind me.
