The air grew thick with the sound of turning pages and the scent of dust they were disturbing for the first time in decades. Nate’s mind reeled as he read. The books spoke of creatures he’d only ever seen in movies. There were bestiaries detailing dragons, their scales described with metallic precision. He found genealogical charts for vampiric bloodlines and treaties on fae territories. It was a hidden history of the world, all contained in this impossible room, and he could barely believe any of it was real. The books themselves were artifacts, some dating back hundreds of years, their pages brittle and their ink faded. “So… dragons? Vampires? They’re real?” Nate breathed, his voice hushed

The shuffle of hangers, the low hum of a dusty radio playing soft rock in the background, the occasional exclamation from a customer who’s found a hidden gem. In the back corner, I discover a wooden crate filled with books. My fingers hover over the spines, titles half faded, pages worn. I crouch down and start flipping through them, the paper whispering under my touch. Valerie appears beside me a moment later with a woven basket in one hand and a sequined scarf slung dramatically around her neck. “Any treasure?” she asks, crouching beside me. “Not sure yet,” I murmur, pulling out a leather bound book with a cracked spine. “This is a lot,” I say, rubbing my eyes. These books are huge. Cayd suggested that I take one and he take one. A lot of what is written in them is the same, it’s about the lineage of the dragon line that goes back for centuries. Both tell stories of how they met the elves, the giants and all of the supernatural creatures, and then it begins talking about the humans. At first, everything went well. Dragons and humans bonded and became the dragons and riders that you read about in fantasy novels. It makes me wonder how many of those books are an accurate or close to accurate description of what life was really like back in those days.

The words seemed to leap off the page, filling the room with an eerie sense of foreboding. Everything written in the book didn't make any sense to either Stella or Morgan.
