Jinx didn't even have time to see what it was as it flipped and spun in the air. Jinx's jaw dropped as magical chains came out of the card. They seemed to be waiting for him. He raised a paw while he held the ornery cards to his chest and hoped he could draw power from the assassin that he didn't have time to watch Hades fight. Like a conductor, he willed the chains to wrap around Lexi while he tried to climb closer.

I scramble backward, crab-walking away from them, my vision swimming. "Bitch!" The second Reaper draws a knife. "I'll gut you!" He lunges. I brace myself. I have no weapon left. The knife in my boot is gone. The keys are in the man's skull. Then, the air splits. WHISH-CRACK. A sound like a whip, but heavier. Metallic. The Reaper with the knife stops. He looks down. A heavy steel chain is wrapped around his neck. The links are thick, rusted, biting into his flesh.

He released the two vampires he was swinging about; they went flying ever upward into the sky before disappearing. He summoned five rings of chains each one with sharp edges. He commanded his chains to spin about in such a way that it created a small translucent black dome with him and the bodies of the three dead beasts inside the dome. Not wasting a single second, he went on to extract the blood sacks from the beasts. Even as he did so, he saw vampires outside the dome arguing about something he couldn’t hear. The sound of the spinning chains was just too loud. Suddenly one vampire pushed another forward. The poor vampire slammed into the dome and was reduced to red mist and more.

The rattle again, but faster, tighter, climbing, and it takes me a second to place it. Teeth. It sounds like teeth chattering. It's afraid. All of them are. Every dead thing stitched into that frame heard a boy scream and remembered making the same sound once upon a time, and the entire skeleton is standing in the dark trembling. "Reena!" I scream so loud it feels like my vocal cords are ripping. "Now! Aim for the head!" The chainsaw doesn't even cough. One cut, prepped two days deep, and ninety feet of oak comes off its notch and swings down through the canopy and the skull takes it dead center.

I had to think fast. My eyes darted around, searching for a solution. My shifter abilities granted me clarity of vision, allowing me to see even the slightest details in the darkness. Shadows danced along the walls as I glided through the hallway, my movements swift and agile. Spotting a random door on my left, I made a split-second decision. With trembling hands, I grasped the chains and crushed them. I hissed when the chains burned my palm. "F*cking silver" I gritted my teeth at the burning sensation spreading to my palm.

His head hung low as painful moans escaped his mouth. Abel lifts his head, Angelo droopy eyes meeting mine. Locking the chain brake I turn on the choke and push the primer button 4-6 times, I lay the chainsaw flat on the ground using my foot as I brace the chainsaw, leaning my weight on it to hold it in place then I pull the starter rope a few times until the engine starts. I bring the blade up to speed the sharp ends running, ready to cut through anything. The sound of the engine roaring consumes the silences. "Which one would you prefer me to slice off? Hands? Legs? Neck?" I suggest, listing all the above. Angelo swallows hard, soft whimpers escaping his lips as he pleads. I cast him a vei
