I slouched farther into my seat, staring blankly at the hockey rink while men crashed into one another at alarming speed and thousands of people screamed. Cold air drifted through the arena, sharp enough to settle beneath my sweater, while giant screens flashed the logo for the NY TITANFALL above the rink.

~ Sarah's POV ~ My blood was still roaring like wildfire when I threw open the heavy doors of the ice rink. The freezing air smacked me in the face, but it did absolutely nothing to cool the rage consuming my body. There he was. Saxton was gliding across the ice, practicing with his hockey team. He was laughing so freel, unbothered, and completely detached from the wreckage he'd left behind in my home. Seeing that smug smile on his face made my vision go entirely red.

She picked up her book and shut it close the next second. “Damn Emily, way to kill the vibe,” Joseph mouthed. “You are a piece of shit, Joseph. Shut the fuck up and go back to gooning on animated series,” Emily jabbed. As Joseph cleared his throat and pretended to act unbothered, Chris walked into the class, reading the thick awkward tension. Our eyes met but I quickly looked away as he breathed in and pressed his lips together. “Another puppet,” Deej scoffed in a whisper. Chris walked to his seat, pumping his shoulders up and muttered. “I guess the theory is true. The football team and the hockey team are sworn to hate each other and it transcends their relationship.”

But Hockey is a beast of a game, and I f*ckin love it. But after my marriage, I stopped watching and even checking live scores. I stopped everything that would remind me of Cicero, deleting him everywhere around me. … We were already seated in a row right across the Islanders' bench before the game started. Papa is seated comfortably with Lugo, Cicero's best friend. They are having a deep conversation that they didn't want me to listen to. So, I focus my attention on the ice, biting down on my lips. Papa is wearing a jersey with Cicero's name and even offered me one before we left the house, but I turned him down.

I crashed backward into the lockers with a deafening bang, pain shooting through my spine as the metal dug in. The crowd erupted, phones started flying up, people shouting and recording. Natalie stormed in and raised her arm, clearly wanting to slap me back and I'm ready for that. "An eye for an eye, a slap for a slap." But when her hand was about to land on me, another hand caught her wrist. "Hands off, Blondie!" Asher's deep voice boomed through the chaos like a command on the ice. The star winger of the hockey team pushed through the crowd with powerful strides, his broad shoulders cutting through the sea of phones and staring faces.

Do you want to know why I think so? You see, once upon a time there was a girl that hated hockey and everything related to it, especially hockey players. She had a good reason as well. But suddenly Nathaniel Madox waltzed into her life and turned it all upside down. He made her realize that not everyone is out there to hurt her. He helped her see that as much as there were asshole hockey players, there was the same amount of kind and gold-hearted hockey players who were willing to top everything for those they loved and cared about.

My hiking addiction has advantages of keeping my legs in tone with the perfect shape for strength and endurance. I see the hockey players and send a quick wave their way, but they turn their backs to me and I can't help but wonder if I've done something wrong or offended them somehow. Shoot, they're probably upset they have to spend their Saturday here at a school pushing books on a bunch of kids who are about as interested in reading as they would be learning to crochet with their grandmas. The kids are allowed to enter at ten o’clock am and follow through the path of tables, entertaining themselves with games and events, earning candy, fidgets, and most importantly books along the way.
