The family cowered, trembling, as the squad moved on.
Another apartment. Empty. Another. Empty again. Each door slammed open, but each revealed only tenants, old furniture, and fear.
Frustration simmered.
“This is bullshit,” one growled. “Cross cleaned house before we even got here.”
Another spat on the floor. “And we get the blame. Always us, never him.”
The Empty Nest
On the top floor, they finally found something. An apartment stripped bare except for scorched hard drives in the sink, ash on the counter where paper had burned, and a shattered laptop on the floor.
