“The fire started out of nowhere, sir. By the time we called for help, it was too late. We were lucky not to have died in the fire when it got worse.” “You should’ve died to save my house,” I snarled and hung up the call. It felt like my entire world was crumbling around me. The house in Florida served as my getaway home. It was the one I was supposed to live with my family in before Mateo eventually discovered the truth. If my house in Florida burned down, it meant I had no home besides the one we were living in, and I worried Mateo would throw us out of the house when he learned the truth.

"He agreed to this reward and disciplinary system himself. He enjoyed the rewards when things went well, so why can't he take the consequences when things go wrong?" A bitterness rose within me when I heard those words. But Dad, Thomas did it on purpose... Just then, a sharp ringtone shattered the peace in the private room. Dad frowned and took out his phone. An unfamiliar number flashed on the screen. "Hello? Who is this?" Dad answered impatiently. The room was quiet enough that the voice on the other end of the line came through faintly, carrying with it a suffocating seriousness and gravity. "Hello, is this Mr. Ronald Werther? This is the Havenshire Fire Department. A severe fire broke ou

Scared of the monster she couldn’t protect her children and herself from. Most people run away from the shit that scares them. Only a few crazy fucks like me run towards it. “This is a fucking disaster!” I grit my teeth, standing in the shadows and watching the house burn down. The fire devours what used to be a beautiful home, leaving only ashes behind for the mourners to cry over. “No kidding!” Cyrus mutters from behind, leaning on his bike with his arms crossed. We stand there for a while, watching the firefighters do their best to put out the fire. But the explosion did a damn good job of tearing the house apart. If there was anyone inside, they’re probably burnt to a crisp by now.

(Dimitri ’s P.O.V.) We step out of the house slowly. There’s not much we can do, we saw the houses being engulfed by the flames from my cousin’s window, luckily everyone was at my father’s house having brunch so no one is harmed. The firemen are already here and are doing their jobs, we can’t do much aside from watching them work. I just hope they are not going to start asking too many questions afterward, they wouldn’t have a motive though, as far as they are concerned we are just a regular family that shares a piece of land and lives together. Hopefully, they won’t get too curious and if they do, we can always try to bribe them.

I didn't live with many people around me being raised and educated at home, it even gave me a certain chill thinking about several people around me suffocating me. I would have to kill them one by one. From the corner of the kitchen I notice Cosmo watching me and I stare back at him trying to convey all the anger I'm feeling, he let me down a lot this morning, I'm sure he would have had sex with the blonde whore if I hadn't done anything. "How is your home?" I throw out the question in a cold tone of voice. "Did the fire reach many rooms?" "No, just the kitchen" he seems to think for a moment, as if he's weighing his words "Forensics is looking into what happened and it appears to have been

“Thank you for that. I needed it. Anyway, one day there was a fire at my childhood home. My father had fallen ill at the time, so he was not working. My mum had to work at the company to keep things in control, so she was gone a lot. My younger brother and sister were sort of in my care because I was like two years older than them at the time. One day when my mother was gone, my father was asleep on the couch in the living room and I was busy playing video games in my room, my younger sister, I guess, thought that she could surprise us all with eggs and bacon. I was too busy playing video games at the time to even notice that she had gotten up from the corner I put them in to play with their

I didn’t need a reminder who was calling the shots. I just wanted out… Out of this room and out of his life for good. ********************************** I was scrolling through my phone screen when I heard the TV click on. I hadn’t even realized the timer had hit. The news was showing footage of a fire. It was a live report. “A massive residential fire broke out this morning in Lockheart Avenue. The fire, which reportedly began on the second floor of a small apartment complex, quickly spread to nearby homes…” Lockheart Avenue. My parents’ neighborhood.

We understood that life was unpredictable, but as long as we faced it together, we could weather any storm. As we settled into our new home, a sense of gratitude filled the air. We realized that the fire had brought clarity to our lives, helping us shed the unnecessary and focus on what truly mattered. It had ignited a fire within us, fueling our determination to live authentically and make the most of each precious moment. We became advocates for fire safety, sharing our story to raise awareness and promote preventative measures. We found purpose in using our experience to help others protect their homes and loved ones from the devastation we had endured.

And the fire was caused by the homeowners themselves. It was truly unbelievable. After the firefighters left, Harriet threw herself into Delbert's arms. "Delbert, it was so scary. I thought our home was going to be lost!" She sobbed with tears streaming down her face blackened with soot. "Am I useless?" "Don't cry, darling. It was just a momentary slip, and besides, I was there with you." Delbert consoled her gently, glancing at his now unrecognizably burnt billion-dollar-worth villa.

Then everything changed in one night. The fire started in the kitchen due to faulty wiring, the investigators said later. By the time the smoke detectors screamed us awake, flames had already consumed half the first floor. Jake got me out through the back door, both of us coughing, barefoot, in pajamas. Our parents were traveling for their anniversary, thank God, so it was just us standing on the lawn in the dark, watching firefighters battle the blaze that used to be our home. Jake’s phone rang while we waited for the all-clear to go back inside for anything salvageable.
