Everything was gone. A firefighter approached, his expression somber. “Are you the homeowner?” I nodded, my voice catching in my throat. “The fire’s under control now, but the damage is extensive. It looks like it started in the kitchen, possibly an electrical fault.”

Since I was the bookish and nerdy class belle, and Austin was the bad boy who couldn't care less about his studies, people naturally started paying more attention to our rumor since it was a topic of interest. It was loud, and he could tell that part of the house was on fire.
