Horrible Books Novels & Stories

And lastly, the books in this section look even older than the ones that Rhode was looking at. I take a closer look at the shelves to see that most of the so-called books are mostly loose papers that are poorly bound. Some look so ancient I worry that the papers will crumble into dust if I touch them. But I pull out a few anyway, sneezing my head off in the process and trying to find something about the silly legend of Udbhava.

It is Divergent, insurgent, and Allegiant first edition series, the notebook, The fault in our stars, and Shakespeare books. "I didn't know what kind of books you like, so I just picked the ones I think you might love"a voice startled me, and I placed my hand over my chest. "You scared me, " "Sorry," there is a dark grey wardrobe just behind the door. And a matt on the floor, a white round table at the corner. "It's fine really, I think I will read them. It's been a while since I have read an addictive book, maybe I will find one in these books. Who knows"I shrug, and sit on the bed.

' Rinny was in good humour again and falling easily into our banter. 'Yes, all delivered, nice and cosy. And they're not stinky witch books, it’s just you’re allergic to anything wholesome. They're powerful grimoires with more magick in one little word than your entire body. I'd be careful about insulting them, they can hear, and they don't like it.' I push at the threadbare rug with my toes and frown as the rose petals start to rise in the water before me, pulling my attention. I turn away from the bowl and ignore them. 'Aww, shoosh. Those books don't scare me half as much as you do. There's another reason I'm calling though.'

"Well, I read that when nonhumans fall in love they become obsessive and you are really obsessed with Sky. It's not a bad thing but why else would you get married at seventeen?" "And where exactly did you read that?" She finally reveals what she's holding behind her back, it's a book. "Ok Sunday I went at the library even though it was my day off. I went there to clear my head. My boss asked me to rearrange some of the shelves. Some of the books were very old," she hands me the book. "Some more than others." "What's this?" I ask and my heart skips a beat when I open it. "I hid it before anyone else could see it."

“How long have you been standing there??” He blinks at me. “Since we walked in together?” Oh. I shuffle to the rows of books, hiding my embarrassment behind the endless of rows of books. The smell makes me nauseous. “I think my number one enemy are books.” I say, nose scrunched as I peer at the title spines. Nothing stands out. These books here might be as old as time. “Is this the Commoners section?” I ask them, feeling my brain cells actually coming back being away from Noah infested air.

“No, you didn’t. I remember, and I appreciate that. But… you must know that with the lights on, even this small lamp, you’ll be able to see how hideous I truly am.” She’s shaking her head as if she can’t believe it, so I feel compelled to describe myself. “Have you ever read those children’s books, meant to horrify young people not to go into the woods at night, that talk about werewolves?” “Yes.” She sits up straight in her chair, leaning in.

Damn, Freckles. The first book I pulled out was called “Images You Should Not Masturbate To”. I snorted, flipping through a couple of pages and shaking my head. That sarcastic streak of hers ran deep. I grabbed another, the title catching my eye: “How to Traumatize Your Children: 7 Proven Methods to Help You Screw Up Your Kids Deliberately and with Skill.” I let out a short laugh, one that came from somewhere I’d almost forgotten existed. Then there were the others—Fancy Coffins to Make Yourself, Do-It-Yourself Coffins for Pets and People, and, for good measure, How to Raise Your IQ by Eating Gifted Children. I shook my head, glancing back at her still sleeping form.

Dannie picked up another joint from her room and went to the library. Among the ancient books was one of the largest collections of werewolf history in the world. If there was anything on Balric or the black book it was there. She gathered a variety of titles that looked promising and lit the joint. Taking a hit, Dannie opened the first book. Inside was mostly what she already knew.

“Were these any help, detective?” “I’m afraid not,” I said, defeated. I was in a bit of a daze after staring at projected newsprint on the dim screen. I leaned on the desk and looked around the building absentmindedly until my eyes finally settled on a small sign hanging on a table covered with a neat stack of books. “Warning: The Library is Not Responsible for Nightmares!” I read out loud, walking over to look at the books. Well-worn volumes with pink skulls grinning back at me from stickers on their spines. Dracula. Frankenstein. The Invisible Man.

“Books don’t talk back. They don’t expect small talk. I like the order. And the stories. What about you? History major with a focus on obscure trade? That’s not common.” I shrugged even though he couldn’t see it. “I like knowing how people lived before everything got loud. Plus, it’s an excuse to hide in here. Away from parties and drama.” “Smart girl,” he murmured. The way he said it made my stomach flip. Time passed. Maybe twenty minutes. We talked about everything and nothing. My terrible roommate. His awful coffee from the faculty lounge. How the basement always felt colder than the rest of the building. Our voices got softer, more comfortable. The dark made it easier somehow. Like we we
