My chest heaved, my stomach twisting in sickness and regret.
I kept moving, my legs shaky beneath me. Tears kept streaming, hot, unrelenting, blinding. I wiped at them, trying to see, but when my vision finally cleared.
Something was there.
A shadow moved ahead, low to the ground. My breath caught in my throat. As the moonlight hit it, my eyes widened. A wild dog. Its fur was ragged, its eyes glowing unnaturally. My whole body froze. I knew what these things were. Everyone did. They were vicious, evil, hunters that ripped humans apart for sport.
