Wolf and Blood

Wolf and Blood

but there's another identity for me which no one knows except me. I write novels under the pen name 'phoenix' My novels are about werewolves attacking humans. Since I don't like werewolves I started writing about them in a bad way to vent out my anger on them. Recently, I've been working on a book named, 'Desire for thirst' in which werewolves attack their prey when they are in rut. My work in this genre has been gaining more exposure because I've made it very clear that I don't like werewolves. I believe people can read this as a novel but in reality the author just wants to expose their readers to the monsters they see in other worlds.

HOUR OF THE WOLF

HOUR OF THE WOLF

Minnow spitted venomously with lips curled over teeth. Saylor's glare fell on his lap, and his shoulders slumped. He knew better than to try to speak to her at this moment. "We recruit a new hunter each year," Cecil said calmly over his shoulder. "Hunter? What do we hunt?" Minnow turned to her father for answers. "Well, we hunt, um." He stuttered. His eyes searched his wife. Dovie rolled her eyes. " We hunt werewolves and other supernatural beings," she said simply without batting her perfectly styled eyelids. Instead, she continued flicking through the stack of papers in front of her.

Different Breed of Witch: A Saraid Maddox Novel

Different Breed of Witch: A Saraid Maddox Novel

Wendy and I said in unison. Jaxon Claiborne was the first immortal Wendy and I had met when we moved to Alabama. He is a full blooded, fifteen-hundred year old vampire who served in the military for twenty years. Now he makes his living as a bounty hunter in Montgomery. In hindsight it probably wasn't a good idea to bring him around Liam because Jaxon seemed to have a problem with boundaries and consistently tried to convince me to spend just one night in his bed. That never happened of course but he was a good friend and much like a brother to me and Wendy. I could trust him with our lives.

Horror Nights

Horror Nights

The horizon was a jagged smear of charcoal gray and bruised violet. For three years, I had walked toward it, guided by nothing but the rumors whispered in the hushed, terrified voices of dying scavengers. They spoke of a place that held the line, a fortress of humanity amidst the rotting sprawl of the walking dead. They called it "Haven."

Horror Games and Burritos

Horror Games and Burritos

On the first day I arrived in the horror game, a man in a suit asked what skills I had. I thought for a whole day and night and said, “I’m good at making burritos.” The man facepalmed himself, a bit speechless. But he still gave me a storefront and allowed me to sell burritos. After handing me the key, he disappeared. I spent half a day cleaning the shop and then returned to the real world to buy necessities. After preparing everything, I opened for business when the blood-red moon rose.

Wolf Riders MC

Wolf Riders MC

Sure, it annoyed some of the other pedestrians, but out here, there wasn’t a car in sight. Fairfax was one of those small towns, with a really small town but a huge zip code. Houses were scattered all over the place, making my closest neighbor the old man living two miles down the road. Surrounded by mountains and forest, it sometimes reminded me a little of the town in the Twilight movie. Or you know--- just any horror movie! I almost grinned at that, since that used to be Grace’s go-to line. She had a thing for horror-flicks, but was terrified after watching them…

Werewolf short stories

Werewolf short stories

I don't even have his number! "Hello? Who's there?" I whispered. It was like a horror movie. The girl in the forest screaming and running for her dear life. Maybe it is Jordan. He is a douchebag but can he pull such a stunt just to scare me? One thing I learned from the horror movies I watch is never to scream and run so I backed away and tried to be in the shade because the moon was up and bright. I don't want to be spotted or watched by who may or may not be my predator.

Romancing the Horror

Romancing the Horror

Ximena pointed to one of them. "Hey, you'll rest here tonight. No matter what you hear, do not leave the coffin." Something told me tonight was definitely not going to be peaceful. Sleeping alone in a coffin did not sound appealing. If anything, one human and one ghost together felt safer. Seeing Ximena lie down in her coffin fully dressed, I climbed in and lay down beside her. "My dear husband?" Her terrifying ghost face suddenly appeared inches from mine. My heart skipped a beat, but I forced myself to speak. "Ximena, on a night like this, how could I let you stay alone?"

Frequently Asked Questions

You'd be surprised how many horror stories are set in the empty spaces of the old West, where isolation does half the scare work for the author. Cormac McCarthy's 'Blood Meridian' isn't a traditional ghost story, but the sheer, unrelenting violence against that landscape feels more horrifying than any specter. For something with a clearer supernatural hook, 'The Hunger' by Alma Katsu reimagines the Donner Party tragedy with a slow-creeping dread that comes from both the elements and something… else out there in the snow. Laird Barron's short story 'Bulldozer' from his collection 'The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All' is a perfect bite of weird western horror, mixing a Pinkerton agent with things far older than any frontier town.

A lot of newer titles try too hard to just be 'cowboys vs. monsters,' which misses the point. The best ones use the setting's inherent loneliness—the sheer distance from any help or reason—to make the unnatural feel inevitable. I keep hoping someone writes a horror novel centered on a telegraph operator hearing impossible messages from abandoned lines, that kind of specific dread.
