—— The Blood Bait Midnight. 02:17 AM. The surface of the shark tank began to churn with a grotesque, visceral crimson. It wasn’t the scheduled feeding time, yet the metallic scent of fresh blood began to waft up from the depths, thick and suffocating, as if someone had opened an artery at the very bottom of the abyss. As I was slowly swimming to the surface, I saw two of the sharks change direction, one of which being the massive shark that was in front of the rest. It was approaching us as we rose towards the boat. I glanced up at Shawn, whose wide eyes caught mine as he saw what was happening. Don’t freak out. I continued swimming slowly, seeing that we were only about fifty feet from the surface. Chris had already climbed out of the water and Shawn was about ten feet above me.

' I ask Sebastian privately. He walks over to me and stands at my side, 'It’s fish blood. Sharks aren’t as attracted to human or human-like blood as people think. She thought that had there been leaves growing and buds blooming, she might have been able to hear them, too. Her sense of smell had grown sharpest of all. Each tree exuded a scent that was slightly different from its neighbors, even when they were the same species.
