Ashley’s POV The sunlight filtering through the sheer linen curtains of my bedroom was too bright. It stabbed at my eyes, forcing me to drag myself out of the heavy, drug-like sleep that usually followed a night of high-adrenaline peaks. I stared at the ceiling, a pristine, coffered expanse of white and waited for the realization to dissolve. I waited for the memory of Julian’s icy blue eyes and his predatory job offer to fade into the fog of a champagne-induced nightmare.

A familiar bookshelf slid away from the wall. An old leather-bound volume floated toward my hands. I smiled. "Thank you." The castle hummed quietly. Almost proudly. I opened the book. I lay there, shivering, my body trying to heal the invisible wounds of a rejected bond while the silver chains continued to poison my blood. A soft click of the door made my ears twitch. I became alert instantly, my instincts screaming. Someone was here. I forced myself upright, my back scraping against the rough stone as I tried to find my footing. The door creaked open, admitting a sliver of light from the hallway.

Anthony's POV I opened my eyes to the sound of rustling leaves. My instincts told me that something was not right. I slowly got up and brushed off the dirt from my pants. As I scanned the area, I saw a group of hunters circling a girl. She was huddled up in a corner, terrified and in pain. I could see the fear in her eyes as she stared at them. Without a second thought, I ran towards the group of hunters, my adrenaline pumping. As I approached them, they turned their attention towards me. I could see the confusion on their faces. They weren't expecting me to intervene.

It lacked the constant sharpness she carried while awake. I stayed perfectly still. Even Orrin didn’t move. I didn’t want to wake her up. For a rare moment, everything felt calm. But then she stirred. She opened her eyes and awareness crept slowly across her face. Confusion flickered in here eyes followed by realization. She froze. Then she pushed herself upright quickly. She brushed leaves from her clothes, clearly irritated. “What happened?” she asked. I sat up slowly. “We fell asleep.” A faint flush crept across her face, but I couldn’t tell if she was angry or embarrassed.

The poor girl stopped breathing the second their eyes met, she trembled as she came forward knees knocking together at the force of her shaking. “Breathe honey, all well be over soon.” Evan told her with a voice soft as silk, she immediately took a breath, then another and another. Still the shuddering continued all the way to the corner of the desk where she reached forward and closed her trembling fingers around the letter opener.
