After we toasted, and after he pressed a soft, intimate kiss to my cheek, we walked down toward the stables. We held hands as he told me how the palace was built, how his grandfather had won the throne over two thousand years ago, and built the Kingdom of Summer from the ground up, establishing the wealth that defined it today.
“I’m proud to lead these people forward,” he said, sounding genuinely sincere. “Which is why…” His gaze shifted—deeper, heavier, something I hadn’t seen before. “It’s important for me to pass it on.”
