“Okay,” I whispered.
Mom’s face lit up. “Wonderful! Come down for breakfast first. You need to eat something before training.” She kissed my forehead. “You’re going to do great.”
They left, closing my door behind them.
I stood there for a long moment, staring at nothing, then turned to my closet and pulled out workout clothes with shaking hands. Black leggings, a sports bra, and an oversized t-shirt to hide as much of myself as possible. I braided my hair back with fingers that wouldn’t quite steady, and my reflection in the mirror looked pale and haunted, like I was preparing for battle instead of training.
