“Can't you just forget about Damon and live with me here? I'll do anything to make you happy.” She wriggles in Hunter's grasp, fear clouding in her eyes when he won't let her go. “Hunter, release me please, I need to find Damon.” Hunter swerves her around to face, his hand moving to touch her inappropriately as he attempts to forcefully kiss her. Alpha Damon can no longer contain his rage, or watch the scene any longer charges at Hunter. In one swift, deadly move, he ruthlessly extracted his heart without hesitation. Lana gasps, her eyes widening in shock as Damon’s figure appears after Hunter collapses, lifeless, to the ground.

"I'm begging you… Please save my daughter…" The surrounding chatter ceased abruptly as every eye fixed on the absurd scene. Meghan didn't even blink as she casually dialed Matthew's number. The moment the call connected, her voice carried a hint of feigned hurt. "Matt, please come save Taylor. Ms. Bradford hates me so much that she's trying to take the blood reserved for him. She's trying to kill us!" Danielle broke free from the guards and screamed into the phone. "Matthew, Olivia is bleeding! She has a coagulation disorder and needs a transfusion now! Tell the hospital to give us some blood, or she'll die!"

I looked down to the floor and saw Asher’s foot still shaking next to me. “Asher!” I said as I turned to face him. I saw the moon goddess come and kneel next to me. “What do I do mom?” “Place your hand on his heart. Concentrate on his heartbeat. Slow it down and keep it at a pace. Then use you magic to pull the venom from him like a magnet". I did as she said and I listened to his heart beat through my hand and controlled it whilst I used the other like a magnet to pull the venom from his veins.

The door opened, and my breath caught in my throat. It was Helen. Helen—my best friend. I stared in disbelief as she smiled warmly and let him inside. My legs felt like they might give out, but I forced myself to move closer. I crept toward the window, careful to stay out of sight. Inside, they were standing close, too close. Helen’s hands brushed against his chest, and then he pulled her into his arms. Their lips met in a kiss so passionate it made my stomach turn. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t look away.

She pushed the rickety door open and hopped down. Her boots crunched leaves along the dirt track. She couldn’t see anyone. The silence drove her mad. She stepped closer. Blood. So much blood. Its metallic stench filled her lungs until she gagged. Her vision blurred. What? What was this? Her wolf whimpered. A guttural scream escaped her chest, piercing through the silence of the quarry. The veins in her neck bulged. Her snowy skin diffused in crimson. Her voice reverberated against the hollow quarry walls.

I ran my fingers via her hair, inhaling out barely entangled scent. I brushed my finger over her mark, feeling the outline of two hearts with a wolf in the middle. She shivered underneath my touch, moaning unconsiously. I moved my hand to my neck, rubbing my finger over the newly forming mark. It used to be a moon with two wolves in front of it. I smiled, I have a mate again....

Yet, amidst the shadows of hopelessness, a flicker of desperate determination glimmered in the eyes of Hailey. Hailey stepped forward, her hands trembling ever so slightly as she first carefully collected the small, black, pulsating heart in her outstretched palms. It was a heart torn from the one that cast the incante. Its rhythmic beat pulsed in her hands, a testament to the life that had once flowed through it. It wasn't at all what she meant, but spells were fickle like that, so long as it was a heart, it could work.

Now that she was drained of her magic, her eyes were no longer red. "Yes." She nodded. "It sounds like you're asking for my heart. Are you asking for my heart?" Hunter turned and childishly asked her. Hezell smiled wryly and looked down. As a heartstealer, it took her a great amount of self-control to sit still despite being in the midst of so many alphas and potential betas. "She really is indirectly asking for my heart." Hunter turned to his front again in disbelief. "Since we can't directly offer you up to her in honor of Rose, we'll just have to hunt for one," Steele stated the obvious.

I growl, my claws extending as I trace them over his frantically beating heart. "Nickolas, please," he sobs, tears mixing with the blood on his face. He's trapped, his legs riddled with arrows, unable to run. "Say hi to your daughter for me," I snarl, plunging my claws into his chest and ripping out his still-beating heart. I close my eyes, feeling the warm, slick organ pulsing in my grip, his blood dripping onto the ground at my feet. I take a deep, shuddering breath, a sense of grim satisfaction washing over me.

My heart beats wildly in my chest as the sounds of the night reach my overstimulated mind, and my ears pound like a jackhammer. We’re both breathing harshly as we look back into the distance and watch warily as Hunter steps out of the car and shoots at an approaching SUV. Several men step out of the SUV and begin to shoot. Hunter catches one on the leg. You can tell from his awkward steps and the way he’s holding his hand across his bloody chest that he’s not going to last.
