He sounded more anguished than accusatory as he cradled Hunter in his arms. “I know, Clarence,” Bella said softly. “You were right.” A red spot soaked through Hunter's shirt where he'd been grasping, just over his heart. It began to grow and Clarence noticed, too. “He's bleeding,” She stammered. Had the stake somehow...? Before Bella could formulate a coherent theory, Clarence hadHunter's shirt ripped open. Visible through the thick tank top he wore underneath his clothes was a massive blood stain directly over his heart. “When the fuck did this happen?” he snarled.

Dark blue jeans complete the look, and in his bloodstained hand, he holds the Stake Hunter's pulsating heart. Turning around to face the stunned Hunters, the boy waves the still-beating heart in their direction. "Hear me, and hear me clear," he yells, his voice booming with authority. "As long as I live, no one toys with my elixir to freedom from eternal damnation but me!" His lips curl into a Cheshire Cat-like grin as he releases the heart, letting it drop to the ground with a sickening plop. When he turns back to face me, my lips tremble, and I stammer out a single word: "Vivaldi."

Alaric met the first wave head-on, his blade cutting through them like fire through ice. But for every creature he felled, two more rose from the pools. “Sasha!” Ethan shouted, grabbing her arm. “We have to go!” The Heart pulsed violently, its light growing brighter. Sasha clutched it tightly, her mind racing. “No, we can’t run. This is what it wants!” “What are you talking about?” Ethan demanded, his voice strained as he fought off a shadow that had lunged toward him. “The Heart,” Sasha said, her voice trembling. “It’s trying to tell me something.”

Hunter yelled, seeing me on the floor and Drystan leaning over me. "No!" I screamed as my bodyguard lurched at Drystan, but it was too late. Drystan was faster. The dark smoke wrapped around Hunter, and a second later, he fell to the ground, lifeless. I stopped breathing. My eyes drifted to Drystan's hand; it was soaked in blood. Then he smashed something he held in his hand, and I realized it was Hunter's heart…

She said and I couldn’t help but turn to her and face her directly, her words taking me by complete surprise. I definitely did not expect her to say that out of all the things. She was looking down at her hands now as she fiddled with her fingers. She then looked back up at me and with a half smile, she spoke. “Hold him gently in your hands. You don’t see it yet, but I know he has been cracked enough as it is, and trust me… his heart is more shattered than he lets on. Hunter… He’s strong, but he’s also half human still. Others see him as this magnificent being that is capable of everything, but that’s where they’re wrong. Hailey…” Carolina suddenly stood up from her seat and approached me.

Droplets of blood stained my fingers and trickled down his torso. Hunter growled impatiently. “Do you want me to finish him, Angel?” “No! I said I would!” I snapped back at Hunter. “Like I said, Drake, I wanted you to suffer. But that would make me a monster like you. And I am nothing like you.” I pushed my hand into his chest, feeling my claws cut through his ribs, his heartbeat sped up the closer I got to my goal. His eyes never left mine until I touched his heart and I ripped it from his chest.

My heart skipped a beat!” Madison and Aleister looked at each other after Hunter’s last statement. “Hunter,” she called. “What?!” “Your heart doesn’t beat,” she calmly said. Hunter slowly looked at her, and even before he could response, Aleister spoke. “You don’t have a heart.” Madison hits him after saying that. “Why do you have to tell him he doesn’t have a heart?! Of course, he has a heart! It’s just not functioning.”

My heart pulses, threatening to pop from my chest, while my mind becomes a chaotic mess of joy and nervousness—kicking, screaming, bawling, throwing things excitedly. I can only think of one thing: Hunter noticed me finally. He bloody fucking did!

As innocent as a hunter’s adolescence could be, anyway. The vampire lurched towards me, his canines distended far below his lips and bared in a gruesome snarl. His dark face was scarred, the white lines stark against his brown skin, and I sidestepped his attack neatly. My boots crushed more glass beneath my feet, and then I was spinning through the air, swinging back towards the old lady vampire and retrieving my stake. In one clean, swift movement I yanked it free, and rammed it through the scarred vampire’s heart.

I could feel the power humming just beneath my skin, sharp and ready. The gaoler began to turn, but I had moved before even the thought had formed. My claws burst forth, drawing from within in an elegant arc, slicing through his throat. Blood sprayed forth while his hands went to his neck, his eyes widening in shock as he gurgled and choked. "Ravenna!" Kira's voice was urgent. "The heart goes for the heart before he heals!" I did not hesitate. My claws glowed with predatory heat as I reached out and slammed my hand down on his chest. I could feel his ribs crack under my strength as my fingers clutched around something hot and pulsing. I ripped it free: his heart with one terrible tug.
