I let her banter, hoping she would feel relieved after letting it all out of her chest. “The woman I wanted last night was a wife of a hunter. The husband saw me. He was skilled and other hunters came as well. He was quick to alarm the others. I was just barely able to escape. Hunters, like them, use high technology gadgets to locate ghosts and other supernatural like us, especially if we are anointed by the blood of the victim or they got a sample of ours.” She turned around to face me. Her nervousness was all over her face.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. “Honestly I hate the term. I have read some of the books from before the illness and there was one genre that was about werewolves. Do you know what that is?” I nodded and she took that as her cue to continue. ” In these types of stories, the wives had a soulmate or mate who was the other half of their soul. A fresh layer of snow had fallen last night, blanketing the trees in white. The air was cold but crisp—perfect for outdoor activities. Werewolf hunters turning into what they hunted? All of it felt off. What was the point of it all? The truck came into view, buried under a layer of snow, and I couldn’t have been happier to see it.
