The words hang between us. I don’t answer, but my silence is enough. The memory of betrayal still feels like it just happened, the partner who promised loyalty but used me, the business that nearly collapsed, the humiliation that taught me to never lose control again.
“I don’t trust easily,” I admit. “I can’t.”
