Dane started, but she had already walked right into the clearing. The largest beast snarled and lunged, fast. Too fast. I screamed. But Lila didn’t move. She closed her eyes… and hummed. It was soft. Familiar. I recognized it instantly. A lullaby. The one Zane used to hum to her when she had nightmares. “Lila…” I whispered, heart pounding. The beast froze mid-step. Its body twitched. Its head tilted, confused. She kept humming. The other two beasts stopped too.

A lullaby that I hope reaches him… My voice is shaky, but I focus on the song that I hum to him, I continue to caress his hair as I sing, feeling him beginning to relax after a while. My mind is consumed by blood, death, and screams…

He answered kissing the top of my head. “I felt at peace.” I moaned. “What was that you were humming?” I asked him rubbing my hands on his chest. “A lullaby that my mother use to sing to me.” he said “And I hope one day we can sing it to our children.” he added. “I would love that, whats it called?” I asked him looking up at him. “Kolybel’naya. Lullaby.” He answered. He started rubbing my back and humming the soft melody again. I closed my eyes and sleep took over once again.

I pressed kisses against their foreheads as they replied. "Good night." I left on their nightlight before heading to my room, slipping under the covers as my mind began to count knowingly. 1..2..3..4..5 Not even a second later I could hear the door open and close. I soon felt two little bodies climb onto my bed. I turned around pulling them into my arms allowing them to relax in my arms.
