I could protest, deflect the praise as I've always done, never feeling it ever heard, but the words die as movement catches my eye.
The swish of yellow fabric cuts across my vision like a warning flag, followed by the sudden pressure of heat and weight. Hidi's hand falls on my shoulder with the careless force of someone who doesn't know their own strength—or doesn't care to moderate it. Her fingers dig into the muscle there, possessive and firm.
