I Am A Ghoul Novels & Stories

A name given to me by the population that I just ended up adopting since I didn’t want to be linked with my actual identity anyway. I move through the cracked and broken alleyway streets of the Underworld, switching between the cover of the shadows of broken-down buildings and the rooftops as I move towards the bulletin board in the center of the marketplace. It is the only way to request a job be done by me since there is no way to reach me, a precaution I took to avoid being assassinated or discovered myself.

I call once more, hoping he can hear me. The ghouls hands wrap around my neck and my vision starts to fade. I can feel Nikolai’s presence in my mind. I know he is close by. The ghoul knows it too. He opens his mouth wide, all of his teeth turning into razor sharp fangs. I can hear a rattling noise, the telltale sign that a ghoul is getting ready to devour their prey. I don’t want Nikolai to see this, I concentrate with everything I have and push at his presence, expelling him from my mind. I feel alone again, and I know that Nikolai won’t have to watch me die. Yukiya shouted glancing at his rotten face. The ghoul sighed once again. He caressed the clay prosthetics and peered at her. "I was telling you the truth. I am indeed a ghoul. I was rescued by my highness a while ago. Back then, I didn't have my memory but little by little I regained it all….being an undead….it's not fun. Most of the time I stink. I have to use special perfumes to keep it in check. My jaw falls off all the time, so I have to control my words…. My life is not easy," he sighed with his head down.

Before Hailey could react, it moved so quickly that she barely saw it coming. Her shoulder was suddenly ripped apart by a sharp pain.

"Why wouldn’t it be ghouls?" The floor trembled as the creatures slammed into the outer walls. Elias skidded into the hall, duffel bag over his shoulder. "What the hell is that?" "Ghouls," Kai said. "Welcome to the worst night of your life." The front door exploded inward in a shower of splinters. The first ghoul charged through — a massive, gray-skinned beast with glowing yellow eyes and claws like daggers. Lucian didn't hesitate. He threw a dagger straight into its skull.

He felt a light breeze on his neck as he looked up and saw Glutton in front of him. Everything went so fast that he couldn't even follow what was happening. Glutton smelled Raia as if there was fresh and delicious meat in front of him. He wanted to bite into his neck, but he restrained himself. "W-what are you?" Raia couldn't help but ask. "What am I?" Glutton became serious but still observed Raia's movements. "As you can see..." he said, moving slightly away from Raia. "I am a ghoul...!!" he shouted loudly. There was no one around to hear them, so Glutton didn't care about the consequences of his actions. Glutton was known as the careless ghoul.

One left. She turned, her chest heaving, her knuckles bleeding beneath the crumbling stone armor. The third monster had stopped at the edge of the mud trap. It looked at its dead companions, then looked at the human woman standing amidst the gore. It didn't charge. The chaotic purple light in its eyes began to pulse with a blinding, erratic intensity. The veins on its grey scalp bulged, glowing with toxic, unstable mana. This was no mere brawler. This was a Mana-Ghoul—a creature whose internal magic was so volatile and broken that it was essentially a living bomb.

The monstrous being unlocked the cell's door and placed the tray on the table. "Eat, drink." The being beckoned. Sally whinced in fear. "Oh don't give me that. You'll get over your fear soon. You should be grateful for you have become a permanent resident of the great Ancient Graveyard of Gladios, ruled by my master the majestic and wise Zilleh, a lich of unsurpassed power. Consider it a blessing. I am Hamid, a half-ghoul and chief grave digger of this graveyard." Hamid pulled a chair that was beisde the table. He pulled out a pipe out of his trousers' pocket and lit it with a lighter. The smoke was the same green mist that permeates the graveyard.

The truth is, this is just the beginning of the torture I will have to endure. Even I did not anticipate this. I thought they would use brute force but play fair. I should have known that these barbarians would never play by the rules. All I can do is see this through. "Fiend, pass me the tools." The guy called Ghoul says with an evil smile plastered on his face. When I lift my head, I see that all of them have sinister smiles on their faces. I barely get ruffled by anything but these people are an exception.
