Enough to remind me that even if some people made me feel like nothing… There were still others… Who reminded me I was something. And maybe… Just maybe… That was enough to keep going

She looks up at me and for the first time since meeting her, I see fear. “Love? What are you afraid of?” I lower myself to so she has to look down to see me. “What if I am not enough?” I smile. “That is a normal, natural fear. But My Love, you are enough. You would not have been given Darrick if you were lacking. You are enough. And if you feel like you are failing ever, tell me and I will remind you of all the ways you are succeeding. No goal of yours has ever been unreachable, and you have always put in the work. I’m so proud to call you mine. I am the loser who doesn’t deserve you. I will never be good enough, but you, are more than enough. You are my everything.”

I’ve never been enough. I wasn’t enough for my father, for the committee, for my pack. I’ve always come up short. Hell, I’m man enough to admit it was almost always my doing. I was weak to my father, ruthless to others, and too like my father for my pack to respect me. And now I’m not enough for her, and I can’t even blame her for it, because it seems to just be who I am. Even when I tried to be more, I am most undoubtedly less.

"The worst thing is that I don't even know how to correct my wrongs." I close my eyes, pressing my forehead to my knees as the first part of rain start to drop from the sky, wetting me. "I just want to be ready. I don’t want to lose anyone else because I wasn’t enough. I don't want to lose to anyone because I wasn't enough." 'Then stop thinking you’re not enough.' Nyra murmurs. I snort. "It's not that easy, Nyra." I look at the sky as the rain intensifies.

I didn’t want them to see me like this. A wreck. Weak. Nothing. A shell of an empty person. “I am enough”. I kept repeating in a whisper. “I am enough.”

I stared out the window at the endless traffic and said softly, “Someone left me here.” In the past, getting left behind would’ve shattered me. I would’ve screamed, cried, and lost control, but now I just felt calm. Not long after I got in the car, Paris posted in the group chat. [My stomach hurts so much, and I'm out of painkillers. What should I do?] James replied instantly. [Don’t worry. I’ll be there in five minutes.] I smiled to myself. Honestly, if those two didn’t end up together again, it’d be a disservice to everyone watching from the sidelines.
