Another man stepped out, opened the door for him, and the god got inside. Then they drove away. I stopped running. My chest rose and fell unevenly as confusion settled in. Did I just survive? Was I allowed to leave? No. That didn’t make sense after everything he said. There had to be a trap waiting ahead. And just as the thought crossed my mind, a violent gust of wind slammed into me. The world blurred. Suddenly, I was standing in front of a massive Victorian-style mansion. Beautiful enough to steal my breath. Except something else was stealing my breath, my neck was trapped in the god’s hand.

So for now it seemed like I was at his mercy. Climbing up off the floor, I leave my towel deserted on the ground opting to get dressed instead. I pull a pair of black lace underwear from my dresser, slipping them on before collecting a t-shirt and doing the same. Deciding I’m too tired to dry my hair, I opt to let it air dry and head over to the light switch, flipping the light off before climbing into my bed. That makes me a God,” he whispered. “What are you?” I smiled, showing my blood-covered teeth. “I am your worst nightmare.”

I smiled coldly “Then it’ll be too late.” For the first time, I saw it; a flicker, a twitch in his jaw, Fear.... He knew. Not what I was but enough. As I melted back into the shadows, anticipation burned in my chest. The game had started. And I was already winning. Long after I vanished, Isaiah stood alone in the hallway, his old heart heavy. He’d seen horrors before. But this... this was something else. He had no name for it. But he knew one thing:
