I scoffed. "Even now, you're blaming our relationship for your crimes. You're shameless, Fred. This wasn't petty theft. Don't beg me. There's nothing I can do, either."
Fred crawled toward me on his knees, grabbed my leg, and cried.
"No! There must be something you can do! Ask Professor George. He has influence. He can help me get a lighter sentence! Besides, I didn't manage to steal anything. At most, it was only an attempted crime, wasn't it?"
