He was soft and sweet and impossibly stubborn, and I couldn’t help but love him. By the time I turned eighteen, I’d started working as a model, using my looks to carve out a life for myself. I moved out, but I never strayed far from Sage. He was still my center, even if he didn’t realize it yet. Looking back, I think I loved him from the moment I saw him on that playground, clutching his little car with tears in his eyes. I just didn’t know it yet.
