“I’m not asking for that. I just… I want to be a part of your life, even if it’s just as friends.” Friends. Right. Could we ever really be friends? “I’d do anything to please my friends.” I froze.

Why? "Is this like a part of your plan or something?". I asked. "You've lost me." "It's not a plan. I'm just saying that I want us to live in peace and harmony for the short time we have together. It'd be nice if we can become friends after all of this is over." She beamed at me like we were talking about the weather. "Don't you think so?". "Friends. You want us to be friends." I repeated slowly.

“L-Leo… w-what are you—” “Don’t worry,” I cut in, gently but firmly. “I’m not asking you to like me back. Not now. Not ever, if it’s not meant to be. I just want to be that friend who’s courting you quietly on the side. No pressure. It's been so long since I've felt this happy and I can't hold back the joy that's overwhelming me right now. It's not like I want to become a slut and flirt with boys or anything.
