We retraced our steps back to the stairs and this time, we did go up. At the top of the staircase was a long stretch of wall lined with numerous pictures. A few were of my dad. There were also some of Emily at different stages of her life. I was feeling bittersweet seeing her pictures. I had to remind myself that this was now my home, and my father loved me too.

Dad chuckled. "Come here" Dad said. He made himself comfortable on the bed, and I happily laid my head on his lap. Dad stroked my hair lovingly.
