I open my eyes and see the flames dancing before me, like cobras under my charm. “How?” I stare at my hands, shaken by my powers. “Sorceress.” The snake hisses. She slinks closer to the warmth and settles into a coil. “And you? A talking snake?” I accuse. “Is that not sorcery?” “Am I actually speaking or do you just hear me?” She retorts, her head wedged into her coil. “Who are you?” “There is much power in one’s name, little witch. You would do well to remember that.”

He handed the pages to me. I scanned through it. “A wyvern, dragon, or a snake.” That narrows it down, I thought to myself. “Well, he calls himself The Snake Man.” So much for enlisting the help of a doctor. “There you have it then. He could be one or all of the above.” Anthony said, “Poisonous fangs, able to transform himself into a monstrous reptile. With or without being able to breathe fire. This sounds like a dangerous individual. Friend of yours?”

I suppose his intimidating nature has gotten him far in life, but I’ve seen scarier shitheads in my life and refuse to let anyone scare me off. I cross my arms in front of my chest and try to avoid the creams from Lenox. If the least I can get is an answer, that’s what I’m getting. Maybe then, I’ll have an idea if I can do anything. “Who is she, Than?” “Serpent.” *Talia?* I call out her name before I can think of an actual plan. The serpent is a snake of a kind, but since no damn chemicals might harm a mythical creature, the closest I can get to a natural enemy of a snake is my beautiful cat.

They knew they aren’t a match for me, even if I’m small. Far away, I saw the snake’s body. The snake grew bigger. She wasn’t this big years ago when we were little. She looks— JUST AS BIG AS HIM! A-AHHHH— Every time I was reminded of him— my head hurts. It felt like getting cracked open. I WILL KILL YOU— I WILL KILL YOU…!!! Yet— just before my sneak attack, I heard a familiar voice. “……!” WHY IS HE HERE!? WHY IS HE HERE TALKING TO THE SNAKE!?

I chuckled, running to the middle part of the snake. “Okay snake, time to get burnt once again,” I said, bringing my palm out. Fire shot out of my hand and I made sure the intensity was high. The snake hissed, turning to me. The tail shot up, coming towards me, but before it could get near me, I threw a big rock on it. It hissed louder, and it was getting more angry. I was still burning him and I just figured I have rocks too.

"Are you fucking serious? Is there a fucking snake near me? Holy fuck." "I think you may have just broken the record for the most F-bombs in one sentence." I turned a little and gestured with my head since my hands were full. "It's pretty cool, actually. See, it's just undulating along the ridge there-" "It is not cool. Not fucking cool at all. I hate snakes." She bent her head, burying her face in the crook of my neck as though to block out her view of the reptile. "Palmetto bugs, mice, frogs, skinks . . . whatever, I can deal, but snakes are my hard limit."

She had an air about her that put her different than those birds she’d just scared off. “I’m Tiffany Middleton. One of Mason’s few just friend birds. I see the fondness for snakes as friends followed him to Oxford." Tiffany said, smiling as she extended her hand. “I suppose it did. I’m Adder. Ain’t got a last name. Nice to meet ya. Mason didn’t mention that he knew another snake meta-human. Very cool." I said, shaking her hand. “Thanks. I can go full anthro snake if I want or take on certain traits." Tiffany explained.

My senses were helping in her absence so I was able to know when danger was looming. I'd even killed a snake that wrapped itself around my ankle before it could bite. It was a silver snake with a head that had black markings similar to freckles in humans and I was damn sure that there was nothing like silver snakes. It never existed. Well, I'd seen all sorts of strange creatures today so it wasn't so new.

Sophia went stiff in fear. The giant snake was staring at her with large yellow eyes. She did not dare to move. "This is why an illusion is necessary, child. Who would dare to walk into the mouth of a snake?" The snake's voice seemed to echo in Sophia's head. "What are you? ...apart from being a snake, I mean," Sophia asked. "I am a servant of night. Protector of the eternal flame," the snake answered. "So, everyone just walks in without knowing what they are walking into?" Sophia asked, "Even the werewolves?"

“You’re not claustrophobic, are you?” “Um, I don’t think so. Why, were you going to bust us out of here with your genie powers if I said I was?” He laughed. “I guess you’ll never know if I’m a genie now,” he said. “Well, there was that time I got an MRI,” she said. “Being inside that tiny machine wasn’t much fun. Maybe I am claustrophobic.” “Sorry, you already lost your chance to see my powers.” He moved to the front of the elevator and picked up the emergency phone.
