Luca's men opened the door to reveal a small, barely lit room with a man strapped to a seat in the corner. The flimsy underpant he wore did nothing to cover his dignity. His face and body was covered in horrible bruises of different colors. Luca walked into the room, taking the seat opposite of the man. He stared at the man with menacing eyes as he spoke in a dark,low voice, "I must say you're really tough but too bad I'm not here for games, I hope you're ready to talk"

All I wanted was to be alone so I could meditate on my nightmarish life. My heart’s palpitations suddenly vanished when I noticed the interior of the house like ripped from a magazine. The back door led me straight into the large, modern, and bright living room. The large windows through which the sunlight streamed in and caressed my still naked body gave me the impression that the room was three times the size of the living room at home.

The sad truth is I was too afraid to step outside my cozy little protected box. Now that I'm a Shadow Warrior, I'm making up for lost time or at least trying to. I still suffer self-doubt at very inopportune moments. With a shake of my head to quash thoughts of the old me, I open my sensitive ears to the sounds around us.

The plan worked, and in a gritty rooftop showdown, Alex finally came face-to-face with their relentless pursuer. The Shadow emerged from the darkness, their features hidden beneath a mask, their eyes burning with a deadly determination. "You have meddled in affairs that do not concern you," they hissed, their voice carrying an air of cold malice. "Prepare to meet your end." The battle that ensued was a dance of death, each move calculated and precise. Alex's martial prowess clashed with The Shadow's deadly agility, creating a lethal ballet of combat. The tension hung heavy in the air as blades clashed, and fists connected with bone-crushing force.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.

"This dealer...did he have ties to any gangs?" "I have no idea, man," he says, running a hand across his face. I nod. "Do you know what your brother could have been doing at Inwood Hill Park or close to it?" Brows drown together, he shakes his head. "He lived in Queens," "Did he know anyone in that part of the city?" "I don't know." He runs a hand through his hair. "He could've met new people in those six months," "Right," He looks to Sanchez. "Hey, are you okay? Can I get you an ice pack for your hand?"

Without reading the texts, Willow knew the content was insults and hate directed at her. She plopped the phone back into her phone and pulled her coat tighter around her shivering body, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. Such was her life, but thankfully, all would be over eleven days later.

Where was the real Xavier, the one that appeared in her room? "Anyway, allow me introduce myself properly", Xavier continued and straightened to his full height. He let out a warm smile at Layla and bowed slightly. "Xavier Birmingham. A descendant of the Ancient Shades. I'm a Shadow..." "Shadow warrior",Layla whispered along with him. It wasn't an illusion. This was real. The Xavier before her was actually the one that appeared to her, but this was only his younger self. And it made her confused her all the more.

I heave a deep breath and walk past the open door, past the short hallway and into the living room. The curtains haven't been open yet so the room is cast in shadows. My fingers tighten over the bat as I lift it slowly above my head. "Who's there?" I try to sound brave but even I can hear the tremor in my voice. "Show yourself whoever you are." I sense movements behind me and I turn around quickly, my eyes wide with terror. "Nice little weapon you've got there. How many people do you think you can kill with that thing?" I freeze. That voice. I can recognize that lazy American drawl anywhere.

It was quiet for a few minutes and he finally said, “Tilly and I have absolutely no secrets. People like you and me … we can’t be with just anyone. It’s either one night stands, fake short term relationships or nothing. You don’t just find a Tilly on every corner. A woman that will accept you, that if you are totally honest with her … won’t be afraid of you. I never had someone to … to help me. To direct me, and it damn near killed me. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I call it my dark shadow … it’s a part of me, but it’s a part of me I can mostly keep hidden, that I can control.
