I Observe All That Transpires Here Novels & Stories

Money always talks and I have more than enough right now. My strength was beginning to ebb; my poundings came at longer intervals; my feet beat the painstakingly slow rhythm of a burial march. I drew in ragged breath after another, inviting the foul fingers back into my throat again and again – a demented adult film of sickening proportions. A squeak from rusty hinges; someone was coming in – or going out, I realized. They were leaving him there to die of hunger and thirst. No! No, no, no, no!

And still Again I notice things. A car that lingers too long at a light. A pedestrian who looks twice before turning away. Nothing definite. Nothing provable. Just enough. “You’re tense,” the driver says from the front. “I’m observant.” “That’s one way to describe it.” I don’t respond. Because I don’t want to explain something I can’t fully define. We stop outside a quiet building downtown. The meeting is routine, something I’ve done before without thinking twice about it. Today, I hesitate for half a second before stepping out.

You cannot accompany us. “Je suis sa mère !” I’m his mother! “Nous avons besoin d’espace pour intervenir.” We need space to proceed. More staff entered. Equipment. Movement everywhere. “Préparez le transfert immédiatement.” Prepare transport immediately. “Transfert prêt.” Transport ready. I stepped closer to the bed. “Brahms…” My voice shook despite me. “Je suis là, mon cœur. Je suis là.” Brahms… I’m here, my love. I’m here.

I immediately cover my face and as if I couldn't be more embarrassed I hear a shout from her. "Somebody looks for a sign that says: No Trespassing, future heir Every creating himself." God, let me come to you, Lord. Let me avoid this embarrassing moment that causes Mr. Every to laugh.

Death looked toward the darkness. “For how long?” Noah answered: “Since the first thought.” Then a giant eye opened above them. Not like the Father’s. Not like the First Life’s. This eye was calm. Human. Almost familiar. Sophia stared at it. A voice spoke. “You have finally reached the end of the story.” Sophia raised her weapon. “Who are you?” The eye blinked. “The one reading it.” Everyone froze. The Observer continued: “And Sophia…” Its gaze fell upon her.

None identical. All slightly distorted by angle and distance. A physical mirror of what the network had become. My father whispered: “This is where it began.” I looked at him. “The first experiment?” “No.” He pointed toward the center. “The first observation.” --- The central screen activated. No warning. No countdown. A single sentence appeared. FOUR OBSERVERS PRESENT. Lucas looked around. “Four.” My father. Viktor. Lucas. Me. Adrian was outside the chamber.

I should have been doing something useful. But I couldn’t stop looking at her. “You know you look cute when you blush?” she asked, without taking her eyes off the window. “I don’t blush.” “You do. I saw it.” “You saw wrong.” “I never see wrong.” She turned to me, eyes sparkling. “I observe. I always observe.” “What do you observe?” “Everything. You. The way you move. The silence you carry. The way you look at people without really seeing them, until you decide it’s worth seeing.”

Curiously I do not bat an eyelid as I watch everything happen and go past me and the series of events occur before my very own eyes till tear drops forms in my eyes, "No !!! Don't !!! You can't !!!" I yell out loud screaming with pain but none of them can hear me they all seem to be oblivious of the fact that I'm here and can see it all, Finally the light becomes dim once more and the scene before me closes and it returns to the empty space it once was, I fall to my knees pounding my fist to my chest as my heart aches with a stream of tears running down my cheeks.
