"I'm done let's go." We got out of the house, locked the door behind us, and entered the car. Adam started the car and began reversing out of the driveway. His steps grew heavier, his body trembling as we neared the door. At the suite's entrance, he was shaking so badly he could barely stand. I pulled a keycard from my pocket, swiped it, and pushed him inside.

Behind him, Nicole, who had just walked in, froze. Silence. Thick. Heavy. Then Nicole's resentful glare snapped Lena back to reality. Without another word, Lena turned and walked away.

My parents also mentioned that once I returned home, they would throw me an extravagant birthday party to make it up to me. I wandered the streets alone all day and didn't receive a single message from either Alvin or Theodore. This made me terribly sad. Watching their grief and anger, I felt nothing. If time alone could create love, then all those couples who stuck it out for a lifetime wouldn't still be divorcing in old age. I made plans to meet up with them again. They didn't disturb my recovery and left one by one. The ward was empty. Soon, I was completely alone. I took out my phone to pick a place for us to meet when I saw that someone had tagged me on social media. I clicked on it. It was Kyle. In the video, Emily—who had never lifted a finger around the house—was wearing an apron and cooking for him.

“What’s the point of talking about this now? Whether in my past life or this one, I can never forgive you. The best outcome for us is to never see each other again.” I looked away and clung tighter to Marco’s arm. “Come on.” Marco glanced at me, then at the disheveled figure on the opposite side of the street. Not asking any questions, he gripped my hand tighter. “Alright. Let’s go home.” In the back, the shadow sank to his knees as scattered chamomile petals swirled across the ground in the wind. Still, not a single soul turned back.
