Where the ice melts
Normally I would’ve complained, but tonight I was grateful for the noise, the distraction.
Halfway through, Max nudged my shoulder. “You’re allowed to be sad, you know. Just don't give up inside.”
“I know,” I whispered. “I just don't know how to not drown in it.”
“You have to deal with it,” he said gently. “Or I will.. I won’t let you drown Ivy.”
That did it.
My eyes burned, and before I could stop myself, the tears came. Quiet at first. Then harder. I set the ice cream down and buried my face in my hands.
