With a comical yelp, he tumbled down onto the wet floor with a loud splash. My laughter rang through the air, uncontrollable and hearty. I held my stomach, struggling to breathe as I watched Eros sprawled on the ground, soaked and wide-eyed. Eros groaned, his pride wounded more than his body. “Oh, come on!” I wiped a tear of laughter from my eye. “Oh Eros, I think you’ve got a special talent for creating chaos even when you’re trying to show off.” As my laughter subsided, I noticed Eros grimacing and holding his back. Concern overrode my amusement, and I rushed to his side. “Wait, are you okay?”

But in my mind, I screamed the most heartfelt, thank you. The bartender shot us a suspicious look but said nothing. We pushed through the heavy door of The Severed Stag in silence, leaving behind the smell of mold, the stifling heat. Outside, the night seemed even darker than when we’d gone in. "Oh, for the love of drama," Persphone groaned, rolling her eyes as she flopped back on the velvet chaise. "We were just talking," Ophelia added, waving her wine glass as if that proved innocence. "Talking? You were one bad joke away from teaching her how to curate a perfect murder," Icarus muttered, stepping further into the room. "You do this every time."
