Breaking The Ice Between Us
Until suddenly, I was standing in the rain, staring at the front door of a place that never judged me, realizing I might’ve broken someone in a way that couldn’t be undone.
I was the fucking trigger. The accident. The past. His mother.
Me.
I closed my eyes, pressing the heels of my palms against them like I could block the images out.
Rain kept pouring.
It felt like the universe was mourning something.
Maybe us.
Maybe what we never even got to be.
I stood there for what felt like forever. Long enough that the cold finally started to seep through my bones, into my skin, under the muscle and between the ribs. But I welcomed it. Deserved it.
