The one he used for unofficial alliances, the kind he never recorded, the kind meant to vanish if he did.
My pulse tightens. “Get the men out,” I say quietly.
Luca frowns. “Adrian.”
“Now.”
He hesitates for a moment, then signals the men to retreat. I stay where I am, staring at the symbol. The ashes around it are still warm. Whoever left this was close enough to the flames to risk everything.
I press my thumb to the mark, feeling the metal’s heat. “You’re still playing games, old man,” I whisper under my breath. “Even in death.”
