He asked his brows in question. "Myra is the friend I came with." I got lost inside the crowd before he said another word. I was still looking for Myra, but a stranger came to my side wearing a wide smile.

“Come with me. You might believe me after this.” He turned and began walking away without another word. I stayed where I was, my feet rooted to the spot. Something about him made my skin prickle, but my eyes kept following him. Even though he walked without limping, he still leaned on a wooden stick for support. I told myself I wouldn’t follow him. But with each second I hesitated, the distance between us grew. My stomach twisted. He still had the scroll. Without it, I was lost. I finally began moving, but when I lifted my head, he was gone. My breath caught in my throat. The path ahead was empty. He had vanished. “What the…” I whispered under my breath, spinning around.

“Don’t lie to me. You met him before then. He told me, do you know where he is now. I haven’t seen him since that party. Tell me!” “Fine…” I stared up at him. “I met him before I knew you but… I don’t know him at all. I don’t know where he is.” I said truthfully. I didn’t know if he believed. I noted. He nodded, but seemed to be at a loss for words. I didn’t wait for him to figure out what he wanted to say. I started walking down the sidewalk in the direction we had come from. He took a few long strides to catch up to me, then matched my pace. Walking alongside the man I had vowed long ago to kill was bizarre, but everything in my life was bizarre at this point. I was confused by what had just transpired and, despite all of my attempts to convince myself otherwise, I was glad to have Onyx next to me. At least for now.
