He leaped up and tried to run out of the room. I wouldn't let him. I took hold of his arm and heard a loud crack, and a streak of fire leaped from his forearm. Marcus dropped to the floor as if I had shot him. I looked at the ladies. Mara fingered her crucifix with a haunted look. "You are a holy vessel." A what? Marcus cowered against the wall, trying to keep me from touching him. I stood watching him with my hands on my hips. "Kim, it's not just your brands that can't be touched by a Vampire," Mara said. "It's you!"

The relic in his chest surged dangerously. Still, he moved. He parried a strike. Then another. He pivoted into a roll, sliced through the illusion Vurnex had formed—his father, once again telling him he was nothing. Arthur buried the Emberblade into the illusion's heart. He turned to Vurnex, breathing hard. Still silent. Still standing. The creature grew more erratic. It screamed in languages lost to time. Its form flickered, became a storm of faces—Catherine, Father Michael, Isabella, the Elders, the unborn child, the original Altarbearer.

"Don't argue with me. Follow my plan exactly. The Purified Essence must be precise - make sure it destroys her bloodline power completely. She can't suspect anything." My mate Lord Damien's voice was cold. "Once she wakes up, I'll take her to meet Vivienne's child. Without her power, she'll have no choice but to cherish the boy as her own. No Vampire Thrall has ever challenged a High Blood's decision." The apothecary Elara wiped sweat from her brow, her conscience clearly troubled.

Phoebe took advantage of those few short seconds and used the remaining strength of her life to using a dagger forged with special training to stab the Vampire's heart. It was a cowardly way, but it saved her, Phoebe reversed the situation as she sat on top of him, clutching the dagger that was stabbing into his left chest. The Vampire was in pain because he was attacked, he screamed, causing all the glass doors and glass objects in the factory to shatter, he was stunned in pain, he couldn't see Phoebe clearly but kept stabbing the wings with his claws. Her hand was slowly losing strength.

“I…I don’t understand. I saw the stake buried in his chest.” His lips tighten. “No, babe, that won’t kill him. Rowan is a born vampire. The only thing that can kill him is a sacred stake blessed by a truly pure priest. The only people who have those are the Council, and I can assure you they don’t leave those lying around willy-nilly. Wooden stakes only kill made vampires. The only thing they do to born vampires has put them into a death-like sleep. Short of the sacred stake, Rowan can survive anything. I just don’t know how Taylor got him.”

They plunged at him, but Arthur met them with a sharp precision, his fangs closing against the throat of the first, ripping into the flesh and tossing the limp body aside. “We have to retreat. They are coming in too deep,” One of the hollow moon warriors shouted from behind. Arthur snarled, baring his teeth at them. He’s not letting them get any closer to her. The forest shook from behind them, a deep growl silencing the crowd as the ground shook. All of the wolves stopped moving, moving back slowly to form a formation. And out of the woods came a wolf, but it did not look like an ordinary wolf. It had pale eyes and no fur on the head; it was a scarring sight to behold.
