The two dragons glided along for a few hours before Slate began to descend over a field in the territory of a kingdom closer to his own lair and far enough away from Beelzanborg that the soldiers who were clearly rallying to come after the Heart of Magic couldn’t reach them--yet. He touched down in a field of golden wheat, catching the sunbeams and sparkling like each stalk was made of a precious metal.

The smoke parted. A giant, dark-red wolf loomed before us. In its jaws dangled a smaller, broken lycan—same golden eyes, same hue. Riftan. "Milord!" Vale stepped forward. "Step back," Leurel warned. My knees trembled. Stay calm, Ruby. Zen isn’t gone. He must have a plan. "Ah... I’ve never seen that expression on you, Ruby," Ydrian’s deep voice slithered through the air. "Are you angry I took care of your little prince?"

Even if it is just a moment. As I lay out in the clearing, I think about the last time the Perilous horde helped the humans. About three years ago, a human kingdom known as Damirium was attempting to overthrow Samirya. As my father's eldest living child, I was sent to fight on the front lines. The battle was easily won. But we suffered losses due to the kingdom of Damirium having dragon slayers. I sigh, brushing those thoughts away. I spend what feels like hours staring up at the stars and enjoying the quietness of the night. That is, until I feel a sharp pinch on the end of my tail. I jump up releasing a thundering roar into the silence.

Thompson said. “Thank you, Mrs. Thompson,” Diana, Eric and Elise chorused. The older woman waved her hand and went out of the library. The five of them stared at the thick book once again. But five minutes passed by, nothing happened. “Uh, well. Let’s just eat something,” Kent suggested and was about to stand up when the book began to tremble all by itself and the five of them looked at it in perplexity. Colors of luminous gold, red, green, silver and pink burst out of the book and spread across the room. Then they felt something cold touch their entire body. Before they knew it, they were all sucked inside the book, screaming.

They simply… vanished. “This place doesn’t want to remember us,” Myrra whispered. Ahead, Elior stopped and scanned their surroundings. The oppressive silence had settled too thickly now, making even their breaths sound distant. “We keep moving,” he said, voice low but firm. Rael adjusted his grip on the book, its ancient pages warm against his palm. The words inside had changed before, reacting to their journey. What if the Hollow Crown had already begun to see them?

I hope that our little run-in didn’t run Sapphire off. Besides class, my gem has more or less avoided me. Karli has tried talking to me a few times since, but that should stop now. I ripped into her yesterday. I even made her cry, which I don’t feel bad about. She had it coming. If it weren’t for our class, I don’t think I would even see Sapphire. I smirk when I walk into the library. I see a head of blue hair hiding in one of the corners. I nod at a few people I know studying here as I approach her. The entire area in front of her is covered in books and papers. I pull the chair beside her, ensuring the feet scrape against the floor. Her face jerks up as our eyes meet.

Ash and Kai step back as a black ichor starts climbing out of her mouth and nose. Merlin holds the crystal to the liquid and it flows into it. It was thick and the tendrils move around, swaying as they find purchase on the crystal and then get sucked inside. Merlin is stroking her head, and still muttering in a language he doesn’t know. She holds his gaze as he continues drawing the ichor out of her. She’s shaking, and her spine drops back to the mattress as the ichor is finally contained in the crystal, which disappears into a pocket of the blue coat.

And then, I found three different books, one was pitch color, another was burnt orange, and the last one was pure silver. I stared at the three books on the desk affectionately. If I had the time, I would have picked the three up by reading them all, but I must return back to my room before Talon’s arrival if I was not ready to witness his wrath again. My eyes shunned on the pure silver book. It looked extraordinary and unique. There was something attractive about it—maybe the color or the context. As I picked up the silver book, a chill ran down my spine. The pages were filled with cryptic messages and eerie illustrations. But one passage in particular caught my attention.

Anatoli asked. Without turning to them, Orcenal grabbed something from his bag. He showed it to them, making them squint in displeasure. It was a book. Orcenal found it inside Harriet’s room this morning. The book was the prophecy from the other world, and the title was... [The Crown’s Diamond]. Anatoli and Ayja immediately stood back up and approached him. When they were about to reach and observe the book, Orcenal threw it to the raging fireplace.

“One! You have more?” But she was already on her way out, gently closing the door behind her. I couldn’t help but think of how graceful Darynem were. Such a sharp contrast from what we had been taught back in Anoryl. I took a deep breath and stepped deeper into the library. Where would I even start? “The oldest books are at the farthest shelves, history books below and magic above. That’s the order” a voice echoed from down the lane. Out of the shadows emerged a thin and tall old lady. She had thin glasses that were propped on the bridge of her nose but couldn't hide her bright orange eyes. She was beautiful with her pale blonde hair that tumbled beyond her shoulders in waves. “Thank you”, I
