It’s my birthday. Not only that, but it’s my twenty-first birthday. It’s my twenty-first birthday, and I now live in some crazy kingdom where the king sometimes sends out letters to girls on their twenty-first birthday summoning them to the castle so he can… well, no one knows exactly what he does with them, but none of the villagers approve of it or thinks it’s proper.

Soon there were calls from his sister and brother wishing him a happy birthday. Charles wasn't a very social person. He hated parties and always made plans to avoid them. During all his twenty-six years of life, he doesn't remember when he had his last birthday celebration. Oftentimes he forgot his birthdays while busy with work. His siblings and friends including other family members called him boring and a party pooper but that is what he was and he doesn't wish to change himself for the worse. Charles knew if he gave a hint to his mother she would plan a huge get-together with a lot of pomp and show.

Cara awoke to the screeching sounds of her obnoxious morning alarm. Despite being sleepy and so rudely ripped from her rest, there was a smile plastered on her face before her eyes ever opened. It was Monday morning and she needed to get a move on. Like any other weekday morning in tenth grade, she had to get ready for school. But this morning was special. This was the last Monday morning before her birthday. The special day was fast approaching. This coming Friday she would be turning sixteen years old, but she was even more excited about her birthday party that would be held on Saturday. She was eager to celebrate this milestone in life with the people she loved.

Samara Current Day It’s my birthday, not that anyone here knows it. I never told them when my birthday was, not my real birthday anyway. The party starts around nine, and Mia has me dancing with her in the middle of the room. She’s so excited and everybody’s yelling happy birthday to her.
