“She always was unpredictable. But you cannot hide down here.” My mother stepped between us immediately. “You cannot have her.” The Executioner’s gaze remained on me. “I am not here for her.” My heart dropped. “Then why...” He finally looked at my stomach. “I am here for the heir.” My mother lunged forward, but the Executioner sidestepped her with surprising ease, his body moving with the precision of a wolf trained for single-target retrieval. My instincts flared and I shifted halfway into my hybrid form, claws extending as instinct overtook caution.

He laughed with blood dripping down his mouth, with Damon’s hand still locked around his throat, with the tree bark cracking behind his back, with his face so wild it didn’t even look human anymore, he laughed like one of those villains in the movies who knows the whole world is about to burn and wants to watch it happen just for fun. “You can’t kill me,” Darren choked out between that horrible laughter, his grin splitting wide, his voice shaking with the sound of it like he didn’t even care Damon could crush his windpipe any second. “I’m immortal, brother. Did you hear me? Immortal. We will see who dies first.” Immortal? And then he did it.

There was not enough space in the courtyard, and some sat on the walls to be able to see. “My brothers and sisters, welcome. The day had finally dawned that you have waited so long for.” The noise was deafening. I waited until they quieted down. “Tonight, you will witness the death of our enemy, the hunter Ignatius Saul.” Another roar slit the night. “Yes, my brethren. As promised, I, the Immortal Lycan will protect our kind from all that threatens our existence. They shall perish by my hand, and I will decorate my throne with their bones.” I nodded to the guards to bring in the prisoner.

Not that I care if he lives or dies, but I know that by killing this hunter, the dark luna gets a step closer to release herself. She didn't like what I was up to, so she started fighting me. No way I would fight her back, I kept dodging out of her attacks until she hits right on one of my legs which caused me to weaken. The next thing I knew was that she was targeting my troat. Indeed, she reached my throat and cut it with one bite so I died. Well, at the exact moment, I started feeling the blessing of my curse - Immortality. In less than what seems to be five minutes, I was resurrected.

It made Lisa feel good because it meant that her efforts were not going to waste. Lisa was a grim reaper or angel of death or a shinigami, every culture had a different name for beings like her. She was responsible for guiding discorporate souls, helping them accept death so they could move on to the other side. Whenever someone died in her district she would get an assignment or a prerogative as it was called in the business. Zadkiel was an archangel and her boss; he oversaw her work and that of 25 other reapers that worked in his province.

And if he couldn't kill me, he was going to kill everyone else in the attic. Perhaps the whole house. "You sneaky little bitch," he growled at me. "Didn't you learn your lesson the first time you tried to kill me?" Hezekiah didn't bother to put his clothes on. He stood proudly in front of me, naked and aware of the fact that my plan hadn't worked. I was brought to this harsh reality when he slowly pulled the dagger out of his chest, barely a coating of black substance staining the blade. The wound on his chest remained dry, a clear indication of Hezekiah's immortality.

"The High Pack has judged you. You have been found guilty of soul-corruption. Step aside, and the Oracle will be purified." Kaelen stepped out from behind the tree, his muscles rippling. He didn't shift yet, but his fingernails were lengthening into claws. "You’ll have to burn through me first, Seeker. And I’m a lot harder to melt than you think." The Executioner raised his staff. The white fire flared, turning the air so hot that the leaves on the trees began to curl and turn black.

“He is not a legend. He is the warning.” In the center of the hall, the Executioner walked among the levitating bodies. With each step, the pressure in the air increased. “You have broken the pact,” his voice sounded, cold and articulated like the snap of a chain. “You have violated the balance to feed sick ambitions.” He stopped. The weapon on his arm pulsed. “The judgment has been made.” The bodies burst. Not in fire, not in sound. In silence. Blood ran down the walls like ink. Flesh dissolved like burned paper.

Those grey eyes have turned into molten, flaming glowing orbs. He opens his palm and glances down at the bullet he caught. Three more blasts release. One from me and the others from the Alphas. But like a blur, Jack is gone. A sudden chill rises behind me. I react quickly. The tree beside me explodes under Jack’s fist, splitting in half. I land several feet away. This bastard is stronger than I thought. “It seems I underestimated you, Alpha,” Jack straightens and glances over his shoulder, dust swirling in the air between us. “You are as they say. The unbeatable immortal Alpha.”

The floor beneath the platform was covered with infinite amounts of lava. The executioner danced around the stage with his sword. She could remember the exact movements from her past life. The only disadvantage about having picture perfect memory was being able to recall every detail. The memories of her execution kept replaying in her mind. It was torment to recall all the traumatic bits. Once the dancing stopped, the sword rapidly flew through the air towards her. **************************************
