The ambush intensified. Echo-Binders now advanced in calculated patterns, some mimicking human shapes, others monstrous and exaggerated, teeth flashing, limbs elongated unnaturally. The mist thickened, coiling like living serpents, but the shard pulsed continuously, highlighting safe zones and warning of deceptive illusions.
Bastion’s voice cut sharply. “They’re testing perception under pressure! Don’t be distracted by shapes! Focus!”
Mara lunged at a particularly aggressive Binder. “I’ll distract the nasty ones. You all stay alive!”
