In It Together Book Novels & Stories

It wasn’t just sex. It never was. It was two souls holding each other together in the midst of chaos. And whatever storm was coming… I knew we’d face it. Together.

Nico’s head leans back, without detaching his lips from her neck and when they were both at their limit, their fangs bite deep, marking each other exactly as they planned it. It’s just as Edward Everett Hale said “ Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

Ismail hands me a printout. “Alright, this document states the names of the people who came for the project, what they are assigned to do and who they are paired to work with,” I say reading the document. “Please read out the names.” “The names are paired, so I will read it that way. They are Udar and Fatima, John and Aaron, Chris and Zoe, Susan and Khloe, Ben and Kim, Ismail and Umit.” “Please make sure every intern is working with an employee.” Ismail says.

The pages were yellowed, but the binding was still strong. I opened it.A smell of dust and old paper filled the room. For a few seconds, I forgot where I was. This was the feeling I knew. The feeling of holding something that had survived longer than the people who once owned it.I turned to another page. There were handwritten notes in the margins. My fingers moved gently over the writing.Someone had spent years protecting this book.Someone had cared enough to keep it alive.I swallowed.Jaxson knew. That was the thought that came to me.He knew exactly what this meant to me.He knew what I could do.

The first time I find a man's watch in my fiancee Lydia Winslow's car, her father calls me himself to explain it away. "Jonah, you've got the wrong idea about Lydia. That watch is mine. I must have left it there by accident." The second time, when I discover two movie ticket stubs, her best friend tags me in a group chat. "Don't overthink it. I asked Lydia to buy those tickets for me." It happens a third time, then a fourth, and every time after that, someone steps forward to cover for her. By the ninth time, I pull a tie from between the car seats and hold it up in front of her face. "Whose tie is this?" Her hand on the steering wheel gives the faintest tremor before she dials a number

I read until my eyes burned and my head ached. Nothing. Not one single record of an alpha being marked from the inside out. Not by a mate. Not by anyone. My frustration grew sharp and ugly. “That’s impossible,” I said aloud, voice echoing softly. “Something like this does not just happen without precedent.” I looked around more to see if there was something I was missing… I looked toward the inner safe and saw a book. The book did not sit with the others. It rested alone on a lower pedestal, darker than the rest, its cover smooth like stone but warm when I stepped closer. The title shimmered faintly, letters shifting until they settled.

So I let the silence stretch for a moment longer before I broke it, my hand still under her chin until I felt her settle. “You are not alone in this.” I said it slowly, deliberately, making sure every word landed the way it needed to. “Not anymore. I don’t have an answer yet. I don’t have a solution sitting in my pocket waiting to hand to you. But I am not going anywhere, and whatever this is, we face it together. Not you carrying it and me standing somewhere nearby. Together.” I held her gaze. “You do not have to be the only one who fixes this. You do not have to be the only one who takes the fall if it goes wrong. If it falls, it falls on both of us. That is what together means now.”

"That's right, princess. Families stick together no matter what." "Even when mean people try to hurt us?" she asks with four-year-old directness. Brett and I exchange glances. She's too young to understand the article, but she's picked up on our stress. "Especially then," I say, reaching over to touch her cheek. "Because we're stronger together than we are apart." "Like the Three Musketeers?" Her eyes light up. "Exactly like the Three Musketeers," Brett confirms with a smile. After dropping Lily at school, Brett and I sit in his office planning our foundation's next steps.

Something more stable than either Three people who had been through something together. Who had come out the other side changed by it. Who had found their positions relative to each other and were standing in them honestly. She went back inside. She had a pack to run.

“Whereas, you two stay in the same mansion.” I quickly link arms with Hinn who was taken by surprise. “I have a boyfriend now and my boyfriend has a car, also Hinn, who is my boyfriend, knows where Robin’s house is, he can drop me off there.” I looked up at Hinn who had a goofy smile on his lips as he stared at my hand that was linked to his. “Won’t you?” “Ivana, save Hinn the stress and go with Robin,” Kate suggested. I don’t get why Kate won’t understand me at this point when I want her to.
