The fourth book requires something the previous three did not. She has been writing for fourteen months, since February of the previous year, when the argument sentence arrived. In those fourteen months, she has written forty-seven entries, read them all multiple times, and understood one thing clearly: the fourth book cannot be written from the position of the practitioner describing the practice. It must be written from the position of the person living inside the thing being described. The first book was the practice named. She was outside it enough to describe it.

It adjusted. Toward me. My chest tightened. “It’s reaching.” “Yes.” “Already.” “Yes.” That was new. The first one had hesitated. Struggled. This one. moved. Not blindly. But with intent forming. I held steady. Letting it approach without interference. Because this. this moment mattered. More than disruption. More than balance. This was connection. with something becoming aware. And when it reached. it didn’t just observe. It responded. A shift. Directed.

Her hand flattened against the page. The library was forgotten by her, not literally, but because her mind was now concentrated on herself, and she was drawn away to another place altogether. A room full of light. Too many people. Movement. Some feeling that something was on its way that she had not comprehended at that time. And then — nothing. Not sound, as there was never sound to her. The mere recollection of an interference. Something that broke the structure of that moment so completely that everything afterward was divided into before and after.

With a new introduction, reflecting on what's changed. "What has changed?" I ask Celeste. "Everything." "That's not specific." "It's the only answer I have." --- I write the introduction in the garden. Fig sleeps at my feet. Celeste paints in the studio. The sun moves across the sky, slow and patient. When I wrote this book, I was still learning how to stay. I thought staying meant not leaving. Now I know that staying is something else entirely. It's choosing, every day, to be present. To be vulnerable. To let yourself be changed by the people you love.

Thomas said, “Open them slowly.” My heart hammered against my chest. I opened my eyes slowly, and the light I hadn’t seen in over a decade flooded my vision. I could see blurry silhouettes shifting in front of me. I could see a window. I could see the flowers. I could see the sunlight, trees, and birds outside the window. I could see them all. “I can see… Dr. Thomas, Julian, I can see!” This was a moment I had waited over a decade for. Dr. Thomas hurriedly said, “You mustn’t cry. Your eyes cannot handle any irritation right now.”

My palm grew sweaty in anticipation of his response. "She is the reason why we are having this conversation this morning, I want you and Dad to stop forcing Vivian on each other, she is the one I'm going to get married to irrespective of what you say. I want to introduce her to you. I intend on waiting a while before doing that but I had to do it today and get it over with". "Dad , mom meet Grace" he continues, arresting everyone's attention. Vivian's face was priceless; she was so shocked that her face was drained of blood.

With him now sitting behind me, with me in between his legs, I leaned back. Now that I wasn’t thinking about things, regarding Caleb and my situation, it was easier to just be in the moment. It allowed me a chance to see that I fit perfectly with Caleb. It was like I was the missing puzzle piece. Getting back off track, I focused on the book. It took me a while, but after what felt like an eternity, I found what I was looking for. “That is weird.” I whispered as I read the words from the book in my head.

‎ ‎And when their moment ended, they dissolved back into the Tree, their essence enriching the roots, feeding new possibilities. ‎ ‎The Momentaries became teachers. ‎ ‎Beings who sought to remember the weight of choice would invite a Momentary into their lives for a day, a year, a lifetime. ‎ ‎They would feel the full force of living in the now. ‎ ‎The sharpness of every decision. ‎ ‎The beauty of every risk. ‎ ‎The pain of every goodbye. ‎ ‎The joy of every hello. ‎ ‎And when the Momentary dissolved, the host was left changed—deeper, wiser, more alive.
